Today I had the pleasure of visiting Langenhoe Community Primary School where I was able to walk around their Wildlife Area, meet their school council and give an assembly.
Over the last few years, the head teacher, Sarah Stevenson, governors, and pupils have worked hard to take the school from a requires improvement OFSTED to their new “good” status, and I was impressed with the leadership shown and the passionate pupils who are so eager to learn.
The school also reflects our national educational achievements. Since 2010, England's performance in the international primary-age maths and reading league tables has improved markedly. In the most recent Progress in International Reading Literacy Study, we surpassed Finland, widely regarded as having the best education system in Europe. This reflects the success of the Systematic Synthetic Phonics approach and the Phonics Screening Check for six-year-olds.
